Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy for Sleep and Pain

Many of the people who will read this article may never have heard of the use of magnetic fields, electricity, or frequencies as a way to treat and heal the human body. However, today there are many devices available on the market that claim to do just that. Does this type of technology fall within what would be accepted as the "standard of care" in treating disease?

Let's try to answer the question above and frame it in a way that makes sense. Most of the medicine practiced today is essentially one-dimensional. The practice of 'mainstream' allopathic medicine revolves around the reductionist pharmaceutical view of the causes of disease and how they should be treated. This thought process has led to a very shortsighted view of how to cure a disease. If this industry cannot make billions of dollars from a proprietary drug or other treatment protocol, there is practically less than zero interest in pursuing it as a treatment. This means that some well-researched cures are less likely to become accepted "mainstream" treatments, primarily due to the inability or willingness to overcome all political and monetary obstacles.

With that said, this creates a dichotomy when it comes to some healing practitioners. Are there already treatment modalities that lead to cures that have been shown anecdotally and in preliminary studies to work? Certainly, there are ... but they do not get pulsed electromagnetic field therapy traction due to the way in which many of these modalities are being offered to the public, and due to the fact that they do not comply with what is considered part of what is established. 'standard of care set by allopathic medical organizations like the AMA. Doctors are really at risk if they try to treat people with modalities that have been shown to work in the field, in some cases for decades.

For example, the field of electromedicine and its use of Pulsed Magnetic Electric Fields (PEMF) is one such modality that has shown great promise in helping the body heal. There are hundreds of studies showing the benefits of this modality, and it is irresponsible that the medical profession has not pursued this path more aggressively. One reason for this is that it is not a drug and it is patentable, however, the most obvious reason is that if you actually cure someone of a disease then you cannot make more money from their pain and suffering in the future.

PEMF and other forms of frequency/energy medicine have been around and are available to everyone for about a hundred years or so in one form or another. For those of you unfamiliar with the technologies that exist, several names of researchers you may want to remember are Hulda Clark, Bob Beck, Robert O Becker, Royal Rife, and most recently a company called Sleep Tech Ltd. That sells an electromagnetic device called Earth Pulse. These individuals and/or companies have worked with or have been very successful in using electrical current, magnetic fields, and/or frequencies in general for use as a healing modality. There have been many others, some of whom have worked alongside these people or have worked on their own.

This topic can be quite complicated, so for those who need a primer, it would require more space than allotted in this article to adequately cover all aspects of this topic. However, in an effort to whet your appetite when it comes to PEMF, this article will attempt to provide some basic information. Is PEMF safe? Yes, simply because we are not talking about the same type of "field" and frequency ranges that cell phones and other electrical devices (which are dangerous) generate. PEMF devices produce extremely low frequency pulsed magnetic fields that are mostly specific frequencies ranging from 1 Hz to 50 Hz.

There are many uses for this technology, some of which include its use in the treatment of arthritis and pain, to its use to facilitate sleep states. In one study, PEMF was used with great success in the treatment of arthritis. It is stated in the study that "Analysis of several studies (arthritis animal models, cell culture systems, and clinical trials) reporting on the use of PEMF to cure arthritis has conclusively shown that PEMF not only relieves pain in the condition of arthritis but also provides chondroprotection, exerts anti-inflammatory action and helps in bone remodeling and this could be developed as a viable alternative for the treatment of arthritis.
